Desktop agent scan in progress with live status

Running a scan

1

Choose folders

From the scan screen, select one or more folders to scan — home directories, shared drives mounted locally, download folders, or the whole disk. The agent walks each tree recursively.
2

Start the scan

Click Start scan. A live, animated status shows the current file, files processed, and findings so far.
3

Pause or resume anytime

Scans can be paused and resumed without losing progress — useful on laptops when the user needs full performance back.
Which entities are detected is controlled by the PII Types configuration, and whether archives are opened is controlled by Archive Scanning settings. Review both before a large scan.

Scheduled recurring scans

Set up recurring scans so endpoints stay continuously inventoried:
  • Choose the folders and a recurrence (for example, weekly).
  • The agent runs the scan automatically in the background at the scheduled time.
  • Results accumulate in the findings list like any manual scan.

Reading findings

Each finding row shows:
FieldDescription
Entity typeThe PII rule that matched (for example, “US SSN”, “Credit Card”, “Aadhaar”)
Masked valueThe matched value with most characters redacted, e.g. •••-••-6789
ConfidenceScore reflecting pattern strength, checksum validation, and context
File locationFull path to the file containing the match
Values are always masked in the UI. The agent never displays or exports full matched values, keeping the discovery tool itself from becoming a PII exposure vector.
A running scan stops immediately if the device’s license expires — see license expiry enforcement.
For triaging, exporting, and deleting findings, see Managing Findings.
